UNIT 3 Systems of nutrition THE RELATION BETWEEN THE SYSTEMS INVOLVED IN NUTRITION Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education

UNIDAD 3 Relation between the systems involved in nutrition UNIT 3 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education SYSTEMS INVOLVED IN NUTRITION HOW THE EXCHANGE OF SUBSTANCES TAKES PLACE

UNIDAD 3 Relation between the systems involved in nutrition UNIT 3 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education Imagine that this drawing represents a human. How do they manage it? As with all multicellular organisms, most of the cells in our body are not in contact with the external environment. Cells of our body External environment Inside our body However, they need to exchange substances with the outside.

UNIDAD 3 Relation between the systems involved in nutrition UNIT 3 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education To “help” the cells, our body has various specialised systems for the exchange of substances with the exterior. These are: We will represent them in the drawing like this…

UNIDAD 3 Relation between the systems involved in nutrition UNIT 3 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education The digestive system…

UNIDAD 3 Relation between the systems involved in nutrition UNIT 3 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education …the respiratory system…

UNIDAD 3 Relation between the systems involved in nutrition UNIT 3 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education …and the excretory system

UNIDAD 3 Relation between the systems involved in nutrition UNIT 3 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education In addition, our organism has two systems which transport substances all around the body: the circulatory system (with blood)…

UNIDAD 3 Relation between the systems involved in nutrition UNIT 3 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education …and the lymphatic system (with lymph)

Secondary Education These systems permit the exchange of substances between the cells and the exterior. To find out how the exchange of substances takes place in each one of these systems, CLICK on the buttons. Exchange of substances in the digestive system Exchange of substances in the respiratory system Exchange of substances in the circulatory system and in the lymphatic system Exchange of substances in the excretory system and in other organs

UNIDAD 3 Relation between the systems involved in nutrition UNIT 3 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education We ingest food The digestive system obtains the nutrients contained in food… Nutrients …and passes them into the transportation systems. Exchange of substances in the digestive system

UNIDAD 3 Relation between the systems involved in nutrition UNIT 3 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education These systems permits the exchange of substances between the cells and the exterior.

Secondary Education We take in air The respiratory system enables us to take in air from the exterior… Oxygen … and so the oxygen from the air passes into the blood. Exchange of substances in the respiratory system

UNIDAD 3 Relation between the systems involved in nutrition UNIT 3 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education These systems, the exchange of substances between the cells and the exterior.

Secondary Education The blood and lymph carry the nutrients and oxygen to the cells throughout the body. Nutrients Oxygen Exchange of substances in the circulatory system and in the lymphatic system

UNIDAD 3 Relation between the systems involved in nutrition UNIT 3 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education The cells use the nutrients and oxygen to obtain energy and perform their functions. They produce CO 2 and other waste substances, which they expel. These are collected by the transport systems and carried to the systems that expel them from the body. Waste CO 2 Exchange of substances in the circulatory system and in the lymphatic system

UNIDAD 3 Relation between the systems involved in nutrition UNIT 3 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education These systems permits the exchange of substances between the cells and the exterior.

Secondary Education The respiratory system takes the CO 2 from the blood and expels it in exhalation CO 2 Many of the other waste products are collected by the blood and the excretory system and are expelled in the form of urine. Waste The same is true of the sweat glands, which expel waste in the form of sweat. Exchange of substances in the excretory system and in other organs

UNIDAD 3 Relation between the systems involved in nutrition UNIT 3 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education All these processes take place at the same time Go to the activities, CLICK Go to the main menu, CLICK

UNIDAD 3 Relation between the systems involved in nutrition UNIT 3 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education 1. Explain what each one of the arrows represents. Activities To start again, CLICK
