Hanukkah The Feast of Lights

Hanukkah celebrates the military victory of the Jews over foreign rulers in 164 B.C. People are celebrating the cleansing and 2nd dedication of the Temple after Syrians were driven out of a Jerusalem in 165 B.C.

The most important custom is lighting the menorah. Gifts are exchanged and kids play holiday games. They light candles each night on a menorah for 8 nights.

A dradle and a menorah are symbols of Hanukkah. Another symbols is the Jewish star.

It takes place on the eve of the 25 th day of the Hebrew month of Kislev which is December. It lasts for 8 nights.
