This is because the silicone polymer, which itself is virtually indestructible, encapsulates individual yarns and fibres and becomes an integral part of a single layer fabric. Therefore it cannot delaminate or gradually wash and wear away. Epic performance not only lasts the life of the garment, it actually extends the life of the garment. EPIC in Workwear and Personal Protective Equipment Application – 1 DRYING TIME Because of the encapsulation process, Epic fabrics absorb much less water in washing than a conventional fabric and therefore dry much quicker. Depending on the fibre content of the fabric substrate, drying time can be reduced by as much as 80%. In an industrial laundry this can reduce energy consumption significantly. SOIL REPELLENCE In an Epic fabric the tiny spaces between the yarns are filled with silicone polymer. Not only does this provide the unique Epic weather protection, it also significantly reduces the ability of soil or stains to enter or adhere to the fabric. Soil tends to run off, fall off or easily wipe off. This can reduce the need for garment changes due to spillages. If any residual stain is left on the garment it will wash off more easily at lower temperatures and potentially with less detergent. In other words, more convenience and more cost savings in the laundry.

The silicone polymer in Epic fabrics has a “memory” after it is heat set in the Epic process or when pressed in garment manufacturing. Tests have shown that crease recovery with Epic fabrics is significantly better than in the same fabric with just a CRF finish. INDOOR/OUTDOOR FLEXIBILITY Epic is ideal for many modern industries where workers are constantly moving in and out of buildings or vehicles. In the typical European climate where it can rain unpredictably most of the year, putting on and taking off weather protection can be a bore and a time waster. Because Epic is air permeable, which gives it dynamic moisture vapour transfer, it is comfortable enough to be worn indoors and outdoors come rain or shine. This is why washing machine and tumble dryer filters are always full of fluff. The Epic encapsulation process effectively reinforces and locks in place the yarns and fibres that make up the substrate. Therefore the break off and escape of fibre in Epic fabrics is greatly reduced and the effective life of the garment is extended. Specific results depend on the weight, construction and fibre content of the substrate but typical improvements in physical performance compared with the same fabric without Epic are as follows:  Abrasion Resistance – up to 50%  Pilling – up to one grade, or minimum 4  Tear strength after 50 washes - up to 20%  Tensile strength after 50 washes – up to 10% EPIC in Workwear and PPE – 3

In conventional HV fabrics luminescence is reduced by more than 10% when wet. Because Epic HV fabrics cannot absorb water and wet out luminescence is not affected. So visibility is maintained when it is needed most – in rain and poor visibility. With some fabrics a reduction of 10% could take the luminescence below the minimum level specified in EN471.
