2 2 nd Amendment 1791 Amendment II “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”

3 National Rifle Association 1871 Union soldiers Col. William C. Church and Gen. George Wingate found the NRA "promote and encourage rifle shooting on a scientific basis."

4 National Firearms Act 1934 tax on persons and entities engaged in the business of importing, manufacturing, and dealing in NFA firearms. The law also required the registration of all NFA firearms with the Secretary of the Treasury.

5 Federal Firearms Act 1938 Law at those involved in selling and shipping of firearms Sellers were required to have license and to record names of people they sold guns to. Could not sell to people convicted of crime or did not have a permit

6 Gun Control Act 1968 Outlawed mail order sales of firearms. Up until this law, mail order consumers only had to sign a statement that they were of legal age. License requirements for dealers, and more detailed record keeping Dealers could not sell included those convicted of felonies, those found mentally incompetent, drug users.
