1 Peter 3:19-20 “He went & made proclamation to the spirits now in prison”

1 Peter 3:18-21 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; 19 in which also He went & made proclamation to the spirits now in prison, 20 who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water.

Jesus preached the gospel to the ante- diluvians (Acts 2:31; Luke 16:23). – Man is judged for his works (choices) on the earth (2 Cor 5:10; Heb 9:27; Rev 20:12-13). – Why preach only to those who lived & died before the flood?

Jesus preached & proved His triumph over death to the fallen angels (1 Pet 3:22; 2 Pet 2:4; Jude 6). – Why preach only to the disobedient angels in the days of Noah? – There is no plan of salvation for fallen angels (Heb 2:16-17).

Jesus preached (repentance) through Noah to the Antediluvians. – God’s Spirit strove with man (Gen 6:3). – Prophets & Apostles had the Spirit of Christ (1 Pet 1:10-11; 2 Cor 5:20). – Noah preached righteousness (2 Pet 2:5).

Jesus preached (repentance) through Noah to the Antediluvians. – The preaching was done while the “spirits” were alive on the earth. – 1 Peter 3:19 in which [in the spirit] also He went & made proclamation to the spirits now in prison,

How would they benefit knowing the Spirit of Christ was preaching through Noah to his generation?

Noah had the Spirit of Christ, preached righteousness & suffered for it. – (Rom 8:9-11, spirit of Christ; 12-25, suffering). Noah delivered: water Jesus delivered: resurrection Christians delivered: baptism

There will be times of suffering, there will be deliverance: 1 Peter 1:3-9

No second chances, even for angels. Noah was saved through suffering by water. Jesus was saved through suffering by resurrection. We are saved through suffering by baptism into Jesus Christ.
