One day, with one goal – get at least one donation for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. IMAGINE If 10,000 riders across the country got just one $100 donation, we could raise $1 million for ground breaking cancer research and care.

Why do we ride?

Why June 12? One Day, One goal – strength in numbers. High profile and publicity for the ride. End of financial year – best time to ask companies and individuals for a tax-deductible donation before June 30 Companies with unspent marketing/charity budget at the end of the financial year.

Your Epic Plan Each team member to pledge to ask for one donation on June 12 – personal and business contacts. Motivate your colleagues to support – internal office fundraising drive.

How to Ask Identify – who to ask. Qualify – how much to ask for Plan – how to ask. Follow up. Thank your donors!

Identify Those closest to you – family, friends, partners, co- workers. Those who are seen as a leader or well known among your group of friends and family. Those who want to see you or the mission (or both succeed). Think wide – business contacts, your local bank manager, your car dealer, your local pizza shop owner The closer your relationship – personal, financial or professional, the more likely they will give (and the easier it is to ask!)

Qualify Ask for an amount that is important to them. This is a huge commitment you are making – ask for them to make a similar one. Ask big – if you ask for $1,000, you may get $1,000, or you may get $100 – but if you ask for $100 you will definitely not get $1,000! Remember they can give over several months. Remember it is tax-deductible!

Plan and Ask Call and set up a meeting – over coffee, lunch or dinner – and tell them you want to meet to talk to them about your Ride and how they could help. If you can’t meet face to face, arrange a time to phone them. Be prepared to answer the question “What are you doing?” – have you made your own donation? Tell them why the Ride is important to you, and ask them for your pre-determined amount.

Then SAY NOTHING Don’t say another word after you ask. Let there be silence while they are thinking. If they ask a question, answer, then repeat your ask and be quiet again.

Follow Up For those who did not donate, send a “thank you for your time” note the next day. For those who did donate, send a thank you note and keep them updated on your progress. Talk to your Ride Guide after the ask, whether it was successful or not.

Why make a big ask? 80% of donations come from just 20% of donors – but only because someone ASKED them! Think about it – everyone knows someone, either directly or indirectly, that could donate $1,000, or $100 a month for 10 months. It is faster, easier and has a larger chance of success.

Large Gift Donors Are… Those who are older Those who have higher levels of income Those who are closest to you Those who have been affected by cancer Those who want to see you or the mission (or both succeed)

Corporate Donors What companies do you do business with that could support your team? Who is the best person to ask them? Make a list and divide and conquer!

People give to People But only when they are asked! They believe in you, the cause and most likely BOTH Remember you are not asking for yourself but for an important cause People donating to support your participation is making them part of your success

Will you help? Write three names of people you can ask on Epic Impact Day on your pledge card – personal and professional contacts. Set a time and date to ask them on or before Epic Impact Day. Stick the pledge card on your computer monitor or by your phone to remind you. Be bold – make a difference!

Imagine…. If every person in this room asked for $100 on June 12? If every person asked for $1,000? How much could you raise?

Make June 12 Epic at Work Print and display your posters around the office. Hold a staff fundraiser – internal collection, gold coin donation, fundraising lunch, casual work dress day. Keep team donation forms handy and visible. Make an internal fundraising thermometer for your office wall and update it every time a donation is made to your team on that day.

7 Keys to Fundraising Success 1.Make your own donation. 2.Personalise your page. 3.Ask the right person for the right amount of money the right way. 4.Send emails. 5.Use online tools – facebook app 6.Repeat, rewind, remind. 7.Set your goal high.

Thank you!
