Territory Mapper Copyright 2010, TTG, Incorporated General Terminology This lesson introduces the user to a partial list of basic terminology that has special meaning for Territory Mapper users. A more complete list of terms is available for review in the Help section of Territory Mapper, under the Glossary tab.

Territory Mapper Copyright 2010, TTG, Incorporated Account - A geographic representation of a record in a linked table. Accounts can be used to display locations of sales reps, customers or prospects and any other location information. Anatomy of an Account: The symbol, size, and outline color of Accounts are managed by the user, through Account Rules. The fill color of Accounts is representative of the Territory assignment, from the Hierarchy.

Territory Mapper Copyright 2010, TTG, Incorporated Alignment - The process of assigning map objects (States, Counties, ZIP Codes, etc.) to elements of a sales hierarchy (for example, Territories, Districts, Regions, and Areas).

Territory Mapper Copyright 2010, TTG, Incorporated Alignment Layer - The map layer listed at the top of the Layers Tab, the Alignment Layer, determines the map objects that are used in designing and aligning territories. The Alignment Layer has a red check mark, when visibility is fully turned on for the layer. When the visibility state is off, the check mark is grey. This can occur when the visual display is suppressed due to SmartDraw, or, when the line style is set to Transparent in Layer Properties.

Territory Mapper Copyright 2010, TTG, Incorporated Browser - In Territory Mapper, the Browser is a data table used for displaying information in linked data sources. The Browser is capable of sorting data, summarizing data to different geographic levels, and other functions useful in aligning territories.

Territory Mapper Copyright 2010, TTG, Incorporated FIPS - A series of Federal Information Processing Standard codes (or geocodes) that define States, Counties, MSAs, Cities, Places and other related census geography. County FIPS code County FIPS label State FIPS label State FIPS code Note, if you link your data by County, you must use the County FIPS code, not the County label, or the county common name. In Territory Mapper, export the Alignment Layer to get a list of the FIPS codes, as shown here.

Territory Mapper Copyright 2010, TTG, Incorporated Hierarchy - The organizational structure of a field force into two or more levels where the lowest levels group together to form higher levels. 1. Territory View 2. District View 3. Region View 4. Area View

Territory Mapper Copyright 2010, TTG, Incorporated Projection - A map projection is an attempt to portray the surface of the earth or a portion of the earth on a flat surface. Some distortions of conformality, distance, direction, scale, and area always result from this process. Some projections minimize distortions in some of these properties at the expense of maximizing errors in others. Some projections are attempts to only moderately distort all of these properties. Equal Area Projection can be set by selecting it from the View menu. Equal Area Projection No Projection
