1 Pertemuan 14 Understanding Interactive Communication Matakuliah: J0324/Sistem e-Bisnis Tahun: 2005 Versi: 02/02

2 Learning Outcomes Pada akhir pertemuan ini, diharapkan mahasiswa akan mampu : menguraikan konsep dan aplikasi untuk berkomunikasi secara interaktif di Internet

3 Outline Materi Moderating Online Meetings Internet Chat Solutions Peer-to-peer Technologies Internet-based Trainings

4 Peer-to-Peer Technologies P2P technology is the term used to describe a gamut of services that once more promise to revolutionize how we live and do business. In this case Shawn Fanning, the founder of Napster, harnessed the distributed power of the Internet very effectively. While most companies and users have been moving from fat-client to thin-client, Napster has shown to the world that both can peacefully coexist to take full advantage of all the computing resources available Next…..

5 As Clay Shirky, an independent e-business consultant and author, put it: "P2P is a class of applications that takes advantage of resources, storage, cycles, content, human presence, which are available at the edges of the Internet." This is obviously different from the Web model in which many people have become content suppliers. P2P networking offers the network architecture to exploit this mostly untapped resource. A P2P architecture is also inherently more robust, since there is no central point of slowdown or failure.

6 Advantages of P2P There are some inherent advantages of P2P technologies that are the reason for the current hype. Cost savings : Content distributors can save a lot of costs. Swarm distribution : Aggregate low-bandwidth peers by breaking the task of delivering content into lots of smaller data delivery tasks. Distributed load-balancing : Resolves issues around bottlenecks and temporary shortages of bandwidth or storage space.

7 Free P2P Services Although Napster is the most famous P2P solution on the Internet, there are many other P2P service providers. The following list is just a short excerpt from the ever growing list. Aimster : http://www.aimster.com/, AOL's version of Napster that incorporates Instant Messaging and closedgroup file sharing. Freenet : http://freenet.soureeforge.net/, an anonymous, decentralized file-sharing network. Gnutella : http://www.gnutella.com/, the most widely used decentralized, file-sharing network. Swapoo : http://www.swapoo.com/, the Napster equivalent for video games fans. MojoNation : http://www.mojonation.net/, trades files in exchange for "Mojo", the currency gained from donating computer resources like hard disk space and processor time.

8 P2P usage in the B2B Area The following areas can be easily be enhanced through the use of P2P technologies. They can replace existing technologies and be added on to existing processes, solutions and technologies. Supply Chain Automation Collaboration Message Exchange Knowledge Share Distributed Caching

9 Reasons for Internet-Based Trainings As lifelong learning becomes part of working life, new technologies are needed to transport the information to the interested parties. In many cases it is not possible to conduct courses, as too few trainers know about a certain topic and are restricted by their location. Internet-based training (IBT), which evolved from computer-based training (CBT), offers a way to quickly move knowledge to the people who need to know about a certain topic. It offers 24-hour availability and a strong personalization that adapts to the knowledge and the needs of every single learner. Next…..

10 Providing learning facilities is more than just a necessity for a company. It needs to be part of the strategy of every company, as the results of the training have direct impact on the business results of your company. In order to make training more effective, a new paradigm needs to be introduced and the training efforts need to be consolidated. It is very important for the training department to understand the company's business goals. A successful company needs to ensure that the majority of employees have knowledge of the company's overall strategy and their roles in achieving the company's goals. Next…..

11 It is not just the products or services a company offers that influence the training offered by the training department. Many training programs are designed around the products and services used within the company, such as software products like a word processor and a presentation designer. In order to simplify the exchange of information between departments and business units, computer software should be standardized. This also helps to reduce the amount of training required. If only one word processor is officially supported by the company, it is only necessary to offer one type of training for it. It also reduces the amount of training required, as employees are able to help each other.
