THE USE OF THE THIRD CONDITIONAL The third conditional describes a hypothetical situation or event in the past. The past situation or event is contrary to known facts. We can use the third conditional to express criticism.

THE FORM OF THE THIRD CONDITIONAL If + past perfect, would + have + past participle

If I hadn’t been stopped by the police, I would have arrived at the meeting on time.

I’d have taken a photo of that beautiful sunset if I had had my camera on me.
