A group of P4-6 students and teachers from Bishop Walsh School went to see this play on Friday, 12th October.

It is the story of a tiny snail with an ‘itchy foot’ : he wants to see the world. The whale helps the snail to see the world and the snail saves the whale when he gets frightened by some noisy speed boats Dad is the whale and the daughter is the snail. The daughter has a toy snail called ‘Speedy’ She gives Speedy to Dad when he is away working. “ When you are lonely, hug Speedy and it’s like I’m almost there,” says the daughter. It is really the daughter who wants to go with Dad but she is always told,” You are too young, it’s too dangerous ! “

There are lots of messages in this story. The main ones are : Even if you are small or different, you can still get along and help one another and make a difference. Let’s take care of our environment and the animals that live there.

All the students must answer one of these questions on the ’snail’ paper and give it to Mrs Nicholson or your class teacher. The ‘snail’ paper is in your classroom. Make sure your name and class is on the back of the ‘snail’. Did you like “The Snail and the Whale”? Yes/No? Why?

What is the difference between a snail and a whale?

What did you learn from this story?

What would you do if you were the snail?
