15 Review Process (1) 234 Program Committee members, 149 external reviewers Received 464 submissions o Authors chose track at submission time o In a few cases, we changed the track of a submission First review round o Each paper assigned to 4 PC members o Vast majority of reviews completed Second review round o Additional reviews for papers with < 4 first-round reviews o Supplementary reviews for papers with highly divergent opinions o VCs assigned more reviews to selected papers

16 Review Process (2) PC members ranked the order of assigned papers o Instead of accept/reject recommendations o Goal: eliminate bias from narrow view of conference’s submissions Online discussion among reviewers Each track selected a set of top papers o 5 to 13 papers per track o Papers partially ordered within each track TPC meeting – February 22 nd in Redmond, WA – 8 hours o 10 vice chairs and program chair o Loose merge-sort of top papers from all tracks o Determined cutoff point for acceptance o 61 papers accepted – acceptance rate below 14%
