3 Population Statistics Population Statistics (based on population census 2011) Population of Nepal increased from 23.1 million in 2001 to 26.6 million in 2011 with an annual growth rate of 2.2 in 2001 to 1.4 percent in 2011. Population density of Nepal is estimated to be 181 per sq. km. Kathmandu has recorded the highest decadal population growth (60.93%). Terai constitute 50.15% of population while hill constitute 43.1 % and mountain 6.75 %. 4.5 million (17% of total population) reside in urban areas. © creationumesh3
