Sermon INTRODUCTION
2
Shame enters into the spiritual realm so we end up wearing masks “FINE” stands for Frustrated Irritable Neurotic Exhausted

The Soul Toupee is that thing about ourselves we are most deeply embarrassed by and like to think we have cunningly concealed from the world, but which is, in fact, pitifully obvious to everybody who knows us. Tim Kreider

Romans 8:1-5 1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,
6
4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.

Where The Spirit Reigns, There’s Freedom from Shame. The promise of verse 1 is specific to those who are “in Christ” Have you ever been so sideways with someone that the only solution was for one of you to offer up a child? Where the Spirit Reigns, there’s freedom from SHAME.
8
Who is “in Christ”? THIS TEXT SHOWS US THE REIGN OF THE SPIRIT in the lives of those who are “in Christ”. The Holy Spirit equips us to live as children of God because He reminds us that we have No shame, a New Name, and Eternal Fame.
9
NO SHAME. V 1 Jesus took the condemnation so that we don’t have to (Rom 8:3) Our freedom is not only from the guilt and shame of sin, but also it’s power – by the Holy Spirit who indwells each believer.
10
CONFESSION OF LA ROCHELLE : Article 18 Our Salvation All our righteousness and pardon is found in Christ….. That is why we reject all other means by which we would think that we can justify ourselves before God, and without assuming personal any virtue or any merit, we hold only to the obedience of Jesus Christ, who is credited to us as much to cover all our sins as to find grace and favor before God.
11
YOUR VIEW OF GOD’S VIEW OF YOU IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS THAT WILL SHAPE YOUR LIFE, AND IT IS THE GREATEST COMMENTARY ON YOUR VIEW OF GOD.
12
Distinguish the God you create in shame from the God of the Bible- the Good News God. The work of the Spirit is to remind me that as a believer I am “Christ in me” on my worst day, in my worst thought, during my worst temptation..
13
Dare to believe that in Christ you are free from guilt and shame. Believe that the Spirit leads you to the Father and that Christ is praying for you. Where the Spirit Reigns, there’s freedom from SHAME in the community of faith.
