12 Tahoe National Forest, Truckee Ranger District PSW Sagehen Experimental Forest UC Berkeley Sagehen Field Station SAGEHEN PROJECT MARTEN UPDATE  Working with researchers to define location and spatial arrangement of suitable habitat for marten in Sagehen Basin  Verifying baseline vegetation typing  Examine habitat change over time  Developing preliminary ideas on management activities to maintain and/or enhance marten habitat

13 Tahoe National Forest, Truckee Ranger District PSW Sagehen Experimental Forest UC Berkeley Sagehen Field Station SAGEHEN PROJECT MARTEN UPDATE Management strategies can include:  Specific strategies for habitat patches  Looking at linkage corridors – riparian or other  Identifying barriers to movement between core patches of habitat and potential solutions  Retention of key habitat features for denning and resting sites – snags, logs, diseased/damaged trees  Maintain and/or increase landscape heterogeneity while maintaining core patches and linkages
