2. Giant Pandas The rarest member of the bear family, pandas live mainly in bamboo forests high in the mountains of western China, where they subsist almost entirely on bamboo.

3. Most Recent Status In 2004, there was research done and it was concluded that there were only 1,600 Giant Pandas left in the wild.

4. Why are Giant Pandas Endangered? Unlike some animals on the endangered species list, the giant panda isn’t necessarily limited by humans. Most, if not all, of their diet comes from eating shoots of bamboo, which unfortunately is very low in nutrients. Bamboo makes very poor milk for young panda cubs and most pandas who grow up in the wild only have about a 1 in 2 survival rate.
