2 Accent and dialects are a focus of interest for various group f linguists: Sociolinguistic studying: How people use their variety's pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar to express and keep social identity. Phoneticians and phonologists: How to study the sound system of accent.

3 The terms accent and dialect are often used rather imprecisely:. Dialect:Accent Refers to all linguistics elements in one form of a language phonological grammatical and lexical. Refers only to pronunciations It is the phonetic or phonological aspect of dialect.

6 -There are an advantages and disadvantages to study the variety that use yourself: 1-The advantages of studying your own variety is that you are yourself a source of data. 2- Other advantages are that you can plane with more confidence how to elicit the forms you need.

7 1-The disadvantages of studying your own variety is that there are identical varieties. 2-Studying a variety requires some perspective and its very hard to get this when its very familiar to you.

8 Native regional: varieties are those of speakers whose first language is English but who don’t speak the standard. Native national: varieties are found in speakers whose first language is English but who are not from the same country. Non-native: varieties are those of speakers whose first language is not English.

9 First, there are speakers from place where English is one of the official language. Second, there are speakers from places where English is a foreign language. Third, there are speakers whose native language is not English but who live in an English –speaking environment.

10 What to look for in an accent: If you are interested in pronunciation, structure, your study by listening out for specific sounds and transcribing them in some detail. What to look for in an dialect: If you are interested in analyses a dialect you need an understanding of basic grammatical categories (pronouns and possessive,verbs, nouns, negatives.(forms tags questions and adverbs.

11 . Comparing the speech of three generation : -This study of how a variety is changing at the moment. The political dimension of a variety: -This a approach takes a sociolinguistic or a historical perspective, focusing on the status of a variety within community.

12 Explaining why a variety has come about : -This a study of the accent or dialect of a place, including its history. Accents and dialect in :literature -This is a study of an accent or dialect as depicted by certain author, and it offer an interesting slant on accent and dialect work because authers are not dialectologists, and their perpous is not linguistic..
