2. An adverb is: A word that modifies or describes a verb, an adjective, or another adverb.

3. An adverb modifies a verb: Jennifer smiled broadly at the audience.

4. An adverb modifies an adjective: The first-place medal went to a very worthy contestant.

5. An adverb modifies an adverb: The conversation ended rather abruptly.

6. When modifying a verb, an adverb may describe:  How  When  Where an action is being done.

7. Describes how: Erin approached Mrs. Binder cautiously. Cautiously tells how she approached Mrs. Binder.

8. Describes when: Try to get to school early. Early describes when you should get to school.

9. Describes where: Ron and I have looked there. There describes where they have looked.

10. Many adverbs are formed by adding -ly to adjectives. Just a few examples: accidentallyangrilyanxiouslybadly blindly calmlycarelesslygreedily doubtfullylazilyselfishly

11. Not all words that end in –ly are adverbs. Friendly, lively, kindly and lonely are usually adjectives.
