1 Results of the Winter 2015 VTSD Special Education Survey

2 Background Hardcopy surveys were sent home to parents/guardians of classified students. Close to 500 surveys were released. 106 surveys were returned. Not every returned survey had every question completed.

3 1. I am considered an equal partner with teachers and other professionals planning my child’s program?

4 2. At the IEP meeting we discussed how my child would participate in statewide assessments?

5 3. At the IEP meeting we discussed accommodations and modifications that my child would need?

6 4. All of my concerns and recommendations were documented on the IEP?

7 5. Written information I receive is written in terms I understand?

8 6. Teachers and administrators are available to speak with me?

9 7. Teachers and administrators treat me as a team member?

10 8. Teachers and administrators seek out parent input?

11 9. Teachers and administrators show sensitivity to the needs of students with disabilities and their families?

12 10. Teachers and administrators encourage me to participate in the decision making process?

13 11. The school communicates regularly with me regarding my child’s progress on IEP goals?

14 12. The school gives me choices with regard to services that address my child’s needs?

15 13. The school offers parents a variety of ways to communicate with teachers?

16 14. The school explains what options parents have if they disagree with a decision of the school?

17 15. My child’s evaluation report is written in terms I understand?

18 16. My child’s evaluations are completed in a timely manner?

19 17. I am given adequate notice of meetings/evaluations concerning my child?

20 18. I feel my voice/opinion is heard and valued in the educational process?

21 19. When I contact my caseworker he/she is available or returns my calls in a timely manner?

22 20. It is important to me that the caseworker remains consistent throughout my child’s education?

23 21. The District Special Education Director and Superintendent are available and approachable when I have a question or concern?

24 22. The Vernon School District meets the education needs of my child?
