2. The Sun

3. The sun is like a big fiery ball.
The sun is at the center of the solar system .
Its gravity holds all the planets in place.
Its diameter is around 109 times bigger than Earth.
Its temperature is 5,500 degrees Celsius on the surface and 15.6 million degrees Celsius on the core.
Its made almost entirely of hydrogen.

4. Its made out of a little helium.
Light from the sun reaches the Earth in just 8 minutes.
The temperature from the sun isn’t the same all over.
Astronomers think that the sun (and the planets) formed from the sola nebula about 4.59 billion years ago.

7. Our planet is the only one in the solar system to have water in its liquid form.
71% of the Earths surface is water.
Even though the Earth is over 4 billion years old it is expected to support life for another 500 million years.
The surface of our planet is very young because it is always changing.
Oceans help to keep the temperature cool enough for life to survive.

9. What gives us night and day?
The earth spins on it’s axis so half of it faces the sun and the other half faces away from the sun.
What gives us the seasons?
The earth spins around every 24 hours. Eventually the earth will orbit the sun and the year will draw to an end.
