oneone GTE-5B Objective: To conduct static electricity experiments in order to determine how charged objects affect each other. Energy Note: How do charged objects affect one another? Drill: 1. Take out your Station Sheet and your Station Chart 2. Did you have any problems with the homework? 3. In your log book write the 3 methods of transferring charges. Explain.

oneone GTE-5B STATIC ELECTRICITY AND THE ATOM There are three methods by which charges are transferred, friction, conduction, and induction. 1.Friction is the transfer of electrons from one object to another by rubbing. 2.Conduction is the transfer of electrons from a charged object to another by direct contact. 3.Induction is the movement of electrons to one part of an object by the electric field of another object.

oneone GTE-5B You will be performing experiments at a variety of stations. You may not get to every station. This is OK. For each station you are to: 1.Tell what you did. 2.Record your observations. 3.Try to explain what you observed. (Think about the charges of each object before they are brought together.)

oneone GTE-5B ***After each experiment discharge all materials. Before you begin each experiment you may wish to see how the uncharged materials react when placed near each other.

oneone GTE-5B Balloon Head (DEMO) Object 1: Balloon (charged) Object 2: Hair (opposite charge) Charging: Rub balloon on hair Action: Release the balloon Prediction: Result: The balloon sticks to the hair. Oppositely charged objects attract.

oneone GTE-5B Homework 1. Guide Signed 2. Study for Quiz.

oneone EEM-6B Objective: To conduct static electricity experiments in order to determine how charged objects affect each other. Energy Note: How do charged objects affect one another? Drill: 1. Take out all station papers. 2. In your journal, write the 3 methods of transferring charges. Explain if possible. Yes…this is the same drill again. Everyone should get it correct.

oneone GTE-5B Objective: To conduct static electricity experiments in order to determine how charged objects affect each other. Energy Note: How do charged objects affect one another? Drill: 1. Take out all station papers. 2. In your journal, write the 3 methods of transferring charges. Explain if possible. Yes…this is the same drill again. Everyone should get it correct.

oneone GTE-5B Balloon Power Object 1: Balloon (charged) Object 2: Aluminum can (neutral) Charging: Rub balloon on hair Action: Bring balloon near can Prediction: Result: The can followed the balloon. A charged object will attract a neutral object.

oneone GTE-5B Walling Around Object 1: Balloon (charged) Object 2: Wall (neutral) Charging: Rub balloon on hair Action: Place the balloon on the wall. Prediction: Result: The balloon sticks to the wall. A charged object will attract a neutral object.

oneone GTE-5B Rule on Rule Object 1: Ruler (charged) Object 2: Ruler (same charge) Charging: Rub ruler with wax paper Action: Move rulers near each other. Prediction: Result: The rulers repel each other. Objects with like charges repel.

oneone GTE-5B Combing Water Object 1: Comb (charged) Object 2: Water (neutral) Charging: Rub comb with cloth or fur Action: Bring the comb near the water. Prediction: Result: The water is attracted to the comb. A charged object will attract a neutral object.

oneone GTE-5B Twin Balloons Object 1: Balloon (charged) Object 2: Balloon (same charge) Charging: Rub fur on the balloons Action: Put the balloons together Prediction: Result: The balloons repel each other. Objects with the same charge repel.

oneone GTE-5B Paper Dance Object 1: Plastic lid (charged) Object 2: Punched paper (neutral) Charging: Rub fur on lid Action: Shake the paper Prediction: Result: The paper is attracted to the lid. A charged object will attract a neutral object.

oneone GTE-5B Tape Together Object 1: Tape (charged) Object 2: Tape (same charge) Charging: Rip tape off counter Action: Put the pieces of tape together. Prediction: Result: The tape pieces repel each other. Objects with the same charge repel.
