5 WHAT’S IN IT FOR MY SON? 5 Fun and adventure! Lifelong skills training! Hiking, camping, cooking, first aid, citizenship, nutrition, fitness, and more! Achievement! FUN! World-class leadership training! Friends! Did we say FUN?

6 WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME? 6 What would you like your son to be like when he grows up? Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent? These are the 12 points of the Boy Scout Law! Scouts promise to obey the Scout Law every time they recite the Scout Oath. Different than Cub Scouts Scout becomes more independent Troop is boy run with supervision

10 MEETINGS Meetings – 7:00-9:00 p.m. Wednesdays – September – June Drop off through side door (not at front entrance) Uniform Opening; Patrol Meetings; Instruction; Demonstration; Games; Closing Parents to arrive at 8:45 p.m. for announcements made at Closing (enter through side door) No meetings when Fairfield Public Schools are closed or when there is early dismissal due to bad weather 10

11 CAMPING Monthly Trips (parents encouraged to attend) District Fall and Spring Camporees ConnJam (Council Camporee) National Jamboree (West Virginia 2013) Troop Gear tents, ground cloths, cooking gear, lanterns) Personal Equipment (sleeping bag, cell pad, day pack, waterproof hiking boots, extra footwear, rain gear, headlamp, water bottle (Nalgene), compass, pocketknife and Toten’ Chip card, backpack for hiking trips (can rent at EMS), camp chair, mess kit) Packing List (on the Troop’s Website) 11

12 MERIT BADGES Getting Merit Badges at Summer Camp First-Year Scouts; Other Years Merit Badge Counselors In the Troop; in the District; Troop List is on Troop’s Website Process to Follow (when not in Summer Camp) Blue Card signed by Scoutmaster; Find a Counselor; Partial Blue Card; Completed Blue Card; Receive the Merit Badge; Sew on Sash (purchase sash at Milford Scout Shop) More important at First Class rank Opportunities to Earn Merit Badges On Own; With Troop; Jamboree; Camp Sikorsky; District Camporee; Merit Badge College 12

13 SUMMER CAMP Troop 88 attends “Week 1” at Camp Sequassen, New Hartford, CT each year For 2012, Week 1 is from June 24 through June 30 We occupy two sites: Hillside and Jerome Consent Slip; Due Dates and Payments Sheet; FAQs (on Troop’s Website) First-year Scouts are in tents (to meeting camping reqs) and attend Wilderness Patrol in the mornings; Merit Badge in afternoons Other Scouts are in lean-tos; Merit Badges in am and pm Sunday arrival; Saturday departure For details, go to http://www.ctyankee.org/camping/residentcamp/boyscouthttp://www.ctyankee.org/camping/residentcamp/boyscout 13
