4 Tener with how you feel In a similar way, you will use TENER to say you are scared, sleepy, thirsty, cold, and hot. What you are really saying is: I HAVE fear. I HAVE tiredness. I HAVE heat.

6 Tener with how you feel I am tired = Yo tengo sueño. We are cold! = Tenemos frío. (notice that you do not change the word “frío” to go with the subject!) Are you scared? = ¿Tienes miedo?
