2 Length Length measures how long, tall, and wide an object is. Objects that have approximate length, height, or width use these types of units: Centimeter – insect, macaroni Inch – crayon, fingers Foot – people, buildings, trees Yard – carpet, fabric We use rulers, tape measurers, and yard sticks to measure objects’ length.

3 Weight Weight measures how heavy or light an object is. Objects that have an appropriate weight use these type of units: Gram – feather, sheet of paper, raindrop Ounce – pencil, pen, potato chip Pound – person, flour, vegetables, fruit We use a scale or a balance beam to measure objects’ weight.

4 Capacity Capacity measures much an object can hold. Objects that have approximate capacity use these type of units: Cup – milk, beans, noodles Pint – juice, whipping cream Quart – ice cream, oil for the car Gallon – water, gasoline We use measuring cups and measuring containers to measure objects’ capacity.
