2 The Lord’s Sayings in the Light A word of Forgiveness (Lk 23:34) “Father forgivethem, for they know not what they do.” Isa 53:12 “He was numbered with the trangressors and made intercession for them.” A word of Promise (Lk 23:43) Today Thou Shall be with me in Paradise.” I Peter 1:3 “Jesus begat us unto a living hope.” A Word of Care (Jn19: 26-27) “Woman, behold Thy son, and to John, “Behold thy mother.” Matt 12:49-50 “For whosoever shall do the will of the Father, the same is my brother, sister, and mother.”

3 “My God, My God, Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me?” “The Cry of Dereliction.” Ezekiel 18:20 “The soul that sinneth it shall die.” – Physical death is the consequence of sin – The penalty for sin is separation from God (Isa 59:2). Spiritual death. Jesus became sin for us. (I Cor 5:21) God is light & in Him is no darkness. (I Jn 1:5) – Once Jesus bore the guilt of our sin God was forced to Forsake (abandon) Him. – When that happened the light was removed and the world was plunged into darkness.

4 The Sayings in the Dark (#’s 5-7) A word of Suffering – John 19:28 –“I Thirst” –fulfills Ps 69:21 A word of Triumph – John 19:30 – “It is finished” – Literally a Roman battle cry of victory – “I’ve won, the battle is mine!” A word of Reconciliation – Luke 23:46 “Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit” A word of Suffering – John 19:28 –“I Thirst” –fulfills Ps 69:21 A word of Triumph – John 19:30 – “It is finished” – Literally a Roman battle cry of victory – “I’ve won, the battle is mine!” A word of Reconciliation – Luke 23:46 “Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit”
