6 The Torres Strait Islands There are many beautiful islands in the Torres Strait. The sea is a very important part of our daily life and our culture. It is hot or warm all year round in the Torres Strait, so we love to swim. In summer it is also humid but we do get a lot of rain then too. We call it the wet season. Sometimes we have special ceremonies and wear special clothes. Back 6

7 Alice Springs Alice Springs is in central Australia so the days are very hot in summer, warm in winter and it is fairly dry. When it rains in summer it rains very heavily. In winter, the night- time gets cold. Around Alice Springs, there are many natural places that are important to Aboriginal people. Back 7

8 Melbourne Melbourne is a very exciting city to live in. It also has amazing weather which changes in the blink of an eye. Big storms, cold weather and heat waves are all part of living in Melbourne. Back 8

9 The Snowy Mountains Living near the Snowy Mountains is wonderful in both summer and winter. In summer it is never hot and there is so much fresh mountain air, especially when you go hiking. There are always amazing views and wild flowers to see. In winter it gets very cold and it snows, so people can go skiing! Back 9
