4. What are Arthropods? Arthropod means “jointed legs.” There are four kinds of arthropods: insects, arachnids, myriapods, and crustaceans.

5. Insects *An animal is an insect if it has six legs and three body parts. *Insects Lay eggs. They have hard body coverings that protect their insides. Some insects have wings. Grasshoppers are strong jumpers.

6. Arachnids *Arachnids include spiders, scorpions, mites, and ticks. *They are different from insects in that they have 8 legs and 2 body parts. The largest arachnid is a tarantula.

7. Myriapods Myriapods include centipedes and millipedes. They are usually seen in dark corners of houses and buildings.

8. Crustaceans Crustaceans have hard shells called exoskeletons. The best known crustaceans are lobsters, crabs, shrimp, crayfish, sowbugs, barnacles, and water fleas. They have two pairs of antennae, 1-4 pairs of small legs, and most have gills.

9. Final Activity *You will share information about a particular arthropod through one of the multiple intelligences. *You will construct a model of the arthropod you selected for research.
