1 What is the affect of different liquids on the growth of plants? By Alex Childers

2 Prediction I thought Mountain Dew would grow the most and Coffee would grow the least. I thought this because Mountain Dew has the most sugar, and plants eat their own sugar but I thought actual sugar(or corn syrup) would act as a substitute for plant sugar and help the plant grow more. Therefore,Mountain Dew’s sprouts would be the longest and Mountain Dew would have the most sprouts. 3 Procedure 1.Gather cups, flower seeds, soil, and different liquids. 2. Scoop 2 cups of soil into the cup you will use for that different liquid. Bury seeds an 8th of an inch in the soil. 3.Label each cup. 4.Water plants when they look dry with 15 millimeters of the liquid that cup belongs to. 5.Observe after watering the plants My changed variable is the liquids; I have Mountain Dew, Coffee, Water, Diet Coke, and Vitamin Water. My variables kept the same are the amount of liquid they each get, the amount of sunlight they each get a day, the type of soil, the amount of soil, and the flower seeds. My measured and observed variable is the growth of the flower and how many sprouts there are.

10 CER Claim: Diet Coke is the superior liquid to water seeds with. Evidence: My data table shows that the seeds watered with Diet Coke were the first to sprout, sprouted the most seeds, and grew the tallest. I noticed that Vitamin Water and Mountain Dew had (and still have) no sprouts. Coffee started as third but soon caught up to be second and grew a total of 3 and 8/10 cm. Water placed second, but then fell into third and grew 2 and 7/10 cm. Diet Coke had an excellent growth and stayed at first the whole time with a total growth of 6 and 8/10 cm! Reasoning: I know plants need liquids, air, soil and sunshine to complete the process of photosynthesis. I think Diet Coke grew the most maybe because marigolds are hearty plants and reacted more towards the Diet Coke. Also because Coffee came in second and has the second most amount of caffeine and Diet Coke has the most so I thought that had something to do with it. Mountain Dew and Vitamin Water had the most sugar and didn’t grow so I think that the sugar kept the plants from growing. As you can see Diet Coke is the best liquid to water plants with.

17 Mountain Dew and Vitamin Water didn’t get a picture because they were in the garbage. I did observe that they still did not have any sprouts.
