2 What is Global Impact? Seattle Community College District students, faculty and staff Seattle Community College District students, faculty and staff partnering with Seattle-area medical, educational and service-oriented community organizations to deliver healthcare and volunteer service in developing countries. Global Impact began in 2006.

3 Why Global Impact? International Service Learning in the Developing World Provide opportunities to expand our world—beyond typical study abroad locations such as London, Paris and Florence. 8 Strategies for Success Volunteers have a detailed briefing by somebody who can “translate the culture”, particularly as it applies to healthcare services. 12 Tanzania participants It was difficult to communicate but overwhelmingly moving to interact in whatever way possible with families. Amazing! Life Changing! It gives one an insight into the lives and cultures of other people that one does not get the chance to see very often.

Education: puppetry and pictures in local school: nutrition, hand washing, and oral hygiene. 3. 17 Global Impact Partner: Pro World Peru Clean Burning Stove Installation 3,000 stoves installed in homes in 40 communities around the Sacred Valley The benefits are astounding: 20%-60% reduction of firewood and other fuel consumption Reduction in indoor smoke inhalation 12% increase in lung capacity after three months Higher fuel efficiency provides faster cooking times Cost-effective & efficient method of cooking helps families to work against the cycle of poverty

18 Peru Participant Installing a stove was making a difference in quality of life and well being. They are used 365 days/year to nourish the family. What a lasting impact to go into a home and build a stove.

21 One could hardly think of a way to improve on our Vietnam adventure. Every personality aboard enriched the experience and all the sensory treasures we encountered intensified the presence.
