Bats are amazing animals. They are mammals. Did you know that bats are the only mammals that can fly? A mammal is warm-blooded, has hair or fur, gives live birth, gets milk from the mothers.

There are many different species of bats. The most popular bat is the little brown bat. The biggest bat is the Flying Fox, its wing span goes up to 6 feet! The bumble bee bat is the smallest bat in the world!

Bats live in deep, dark, damp, quiet places for example abandoned barns, hollow trees, and sometimes caves. When bats sleep they hang up side down.

Bats are helpful animals. They spread seeds and grow trees and plants. They also help farmers grow crops. Bats help keep nature/plants alive longer.

Bats eat many things. Bats eat fruit and insects. Vampire bats kill some animals and lap up the blood like a kitten would drink milk/water. Bats are actually very helpful animals.

Bats babies are called pups. There are many different baby types too. Bat babies live in nurseries and when the parents leave they squeak to find their babies when they get back. There are probably over one thousand babies in a baby bat nursery.

Bats are nocturnal animals. That means they are asleep during the day and they are active at night. There are other nocturnal animals. They are raccoons and skunks. When we are asleep bats are probably hunting or maybe taking care of their babies.

There are many different types of bats. A common bat is the little brown bat they are very popular in many places but mostly in the United States. It is the size of your palm.

Did you know that guano is another name for bat poop? We use bat poop for fertilizer! The Flying Fox Bat travels in a group of one hundred thousand Fox bats in a group of bats. Fox Island, Australia, is believed to be the largest colony of flying foxes on the continent.
