The Tiers
Tier 1 – Rising Seniors in High School
Students participate in learning experiences designed to introduce foundational competencies needed for a successful health professions career.
Tier 2 – Rising Sophomores/Juniors in College
Students participate in progressive learning experiences which build preparatory skills and aptitudes and guide students’ health career decisions.  
Tier 3 – Rising Seniors in College
Students engage in chosen field clinical/non-clinical, hands-on, research-rich learning experiences.
MedEx Academy Experiences
Patients – Students complete a Health Risk Assessment (HRA); attend health and wellness symposiums; group exercise and individual training sessions.
Clinicians – Students experience health care careers through observations, virtual, simulated, cinematic, and classroom experiences.
Researchers – Students are paired with faculty members to learn research and scientific principles, and complete scholarly activities.
Applicants – Students learn how to strengthen their candidacy for acceptance into college, graduate/medical school, and employment opportunities.
Volunteers – Students spend a day volunteering with United Ministries. Students also participate in poverty and workplace simulations, and a poverty tour.
Students – Students complete practice exams for SAT/ACT/MCAT, etc. and receive counseling on how they can improve their scores. Students also meet with academic advisors.

The Benefits
Credit – Students earn academic credit.
Stipends – Students are paid stipends based on their performance.
Scholarships – Students are eligible to receive scholarships. Scholarships are restricted to accredited community college, four-year University, or graduate/professional healthcare academic program within the State of South Carolina.
Academic Development & Financial Assistance Students may be connected to other resources based on need.

What is the MedEx Academy?
The Greenville Hospital System(GHS) Medical Experience (MedEx) Academy represents an important part of our Workforce Development efforts to attract more young people into health care careers.
The MedEx Academy will support high school rising seniors and college undergraduates in preparation for advanced training in healthcare.
When fully actualized, the MedEx Academy will serve a dual role as the pipeline for students interested in pursuing a career in health care and attracting students to go to Medical School,
