MEDICAL BRIGADES Provides communities with access to doctors and medicine every 3-4 months Through multiple 7 day brigades, community members receive doctor care, medicine, and health education workshops Provides all eligible patients with anti-parasite medications, eliminating and preventing intestinal parasites for 4 months

MEDICAL BRIGADES INFO SESSION – ITINERARY ONE-WEEK MEDICAL BRIGADE COMPONENTS Volunteers work with licensed Panamanian medical professionals Brigades visit communities over 3 consecutive days Volunteers & health professionals use Open MRS data software to track patient information and care Each daily clinic consists of the following stations: - Intake - Triage - Doctor consultation and gynecology station - Dental consultation - Prescription drop-off - Healthcare education workshops - Prescription pick-up and directions

19. MEDICAL BRIGADES INFO SESSION – CLINIC STATIONS IN-TAKE STATION Fluent Spanish-speaking volunteers or community members record the following information on each patient sheet: Name, Age, Gender Community Residence & Date of Visit

20. MEDICAL BRIGADES INFO SESSION – CLINIC STATIONS TRIAGE STATION With the help of an interpreter, below are some of the items volunteers may record for each patient: Vitals & Chief complaints Blood pressure Allergies and Patient History

21. MEDICAL BRIGADES INFO SESSION – CLINIC STATIONS CONSULTATION STATION Doctors diagnose & prescribe medication to patients Students shadow and ask questions throughout consultation Eligible patients (over two years old, not pregnant or breastfeeding) receive albendozole

22. MEDICAL BRIGADES INFO SESSION – CLINIC STATIONS DENTAL STATION Dentists perform tooth extractions, fluoride treatments Brigades that have reserved the Restorative Care Dental Unit also provide fillings for patients

23. MEDICAL BRIGADES INFO SESSION – CLINIC STATIONS EDUCATION STATION While prescriptions are filled, students teach patients about some of the following health topics: - Oral Hygiene - Hand Washing - STIs - Diet and Blood Pressure/Diabetes - Etc.
