3 There is NOT a shortage of food in the world The world population is about 7.1 billion Yet there is enough food to feed about 10 billion Poverty Around the World continued Those without money do not have access to it

4 “Whatever you did to the least of these brothers and sisters, you did to me.” Matthew 25:40

5 48 million Americans struggle to put enough food on the table 1 out of 5 children is at risk of going to bed hungry Living in poverty, you must to decide between Food and medicine Paying for gas/bus ticket or paying the heating bill Paying the rent or daycare for your children Taken from the US Bishops Catholic Campaign for Human Development Hunger/Poverty in the USA

6 About 2,200 people are homeless on any given day in Cuyahoga County 18% are severely mentally ill 21% are in families with children Taken from the Cleveland and Cuyahoga County Office of Homeless Services website Homelessness in Cleveland

7 Refugees are people who fled their country because of religious or political persecution There are 14 million refugees around the world Food is scarce, floors are dirt, and medicine is difficult to come by Refugees

8 Devi and her family are from Bhutan The government told them they had to be Buddhist if they wanted to go to school or get a job So they walked to Nepal, a nearby country, to avoid violence from the government

9 In Nepal, they weren’t citizens, so they couldn’t get a job or go to Nepali schools But they were safe and went to school in their refugee camp Now they live in Cleveland in West Park

10 In 2012, the USA welcomed 58,238 refugees

11 Caring for People with Disabilities Many kinds of disabilities exist In the United States, there are many services available to people with disabilities Youth Challenge is a local organization that offers sports and recreational activities for children with physical disabilities, such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, or vision or hearing impairments

12 A support system is needed for expectant mothers, especially those from low income families or who are single moms The Baby Bottle Campaign for Birthright is going on right now Birthright provides maternity and infant clothing, housing and medical referrals, and adoption information Caring for Expectant Mothers in Need

13 Nursing homes and assisted living facilities are always looking for volunteers to visit with patients and residents Caring for the Elderly

14 We are called to be good stewards of the world and its resources This means that we need to respect and take care of all parts of creation, including water, air, land, and all living creatures We also need to work to ensure that all people have access to the world’s resources Caring for God’s Creation
