El and la are called definite articles, and are equivalent to the word “the” in English
El is used with masculine nouns and la is used with feminine nouns
We’ve already seen some examples of el and la:
la carpeta la profesora
el libro el cuaderno

3. Indefinite Articles
Un and una are called indefinite articles. Un is used in front of a masculine noun and una is used in front of a feminine noun.
Un and una are equivalent to “a” or “an” in English.
una carpeta una profesora
un libro un cuaderno
