State Requirements Class of 2013 and beyond: 4 Math Credits Required Math courses shall consist of Algebra I Geometry Algebra II (or its equivalent) An additional course with significant math content as determined by district governing boards or charter schools.

Financial Algebra Includes tools to become a financially responsible young adult Requires solving financial problems that occur in everyday life Utilizes real-world problems in investing, credit, banking, auto insurance, mortgages, employment, income taxes, budgeting and planning for retirement Includes field projects, computer spreadsheets, and graphing calculators as key components

Sgroi, Copyright 2011 This text will be piloted for the 2012-2013 school year Future adoptions will be brought back to the board in spring 2013

Financial Services Applied Mathematics PUSD Financial Services Program Completers could fulfill their 4th credit math graduation requirement Students will be required to demonstrate competency on an applied math assessment in order to receive this credit

Financial Services Applied Mathematics Requesting approval of concept only Assessment will be developed during the 2012- 2013 school year Final approval will be requested spring 2013 Applied for grant funds to develop assessment

Action Research Mathematics Includes application of mathematical concepts into students’ chosen career area A highly qualified math teacher will act as teacher/coordinator The math teacher will facilitate the application of math concepts into the students’ chosen area of research Students will identify an applied math research mentor in their career field to advise on the final project content Students will be expected to present their final research project to a panel for final analysis
