2 Where did it originate? Arabian Peninsula (Arabian Desert). 7 th century. Islam means surrender or submission. Spread to Syria, Palestine, Iraq, Iran, Central Asia, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and eventually Spain and Portugal. Arabian Peninsula is located between the north eastern tip of Africa and the south western tip of Asia.

3 Who was it’s founder? Mohammed the prophet was born in Mecca, Arabia about 570 A.D. Meditated in a cave when he was troubled. When he was 40 he supposedly had a vision in the cave from the Archangel Gabriel telling him he was God’s prophet. Traveled around spreading God’s words. After he died his teachings were written down in the Qur'an.

4 What was it’s afterlife like? Muslims believe that after, death you will either be at peace in your grave if bound for heaven or shall suffer in your grave if bound for hell Muslims believe that there will be a judgment day Allah will resurrect everyone from their grave and judge them based upon their deeds Non-Muslims are automatically bound for hell Muslims who have strayed from their path will go to hell but can eventually work their way to paradise There is a bridge to Paradise You will either pass without issue or your sins will weigh you down and you fall to hell.

5 Where is the current majority location of the religion? 1.57 billion Muslims Majority in south and southeast Asia Indonesia, Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh have the highest Islamic population 300 million Muslims live in countries that Islam is not the majority

6 Where is the current majority location of the religion? North east African countries have a 95% Islamic population 60% of Muslims are in Asia and about 20% is in the Middle East and North Africa 23% of the world population is Islamic 10-13% of Muslims are Shia, 87-90% are Sunni

7 What are it’s key beliefs? There's one god, Allah People who believe in Islam are Muslims Muslims pray in a mosque The holy book is the Koran Arabic is the scared writing Ramadan is the Islam religion, and they fast (don't eat or drink anything) during it. Cleaning the bad stuff.

8 Key Beliefs continued Friday is the special day to pray for Muslims They pray five times a day Hajj, is making a pilgrimage to Mecca, and they pray to the Kabba Also Muslims give to Muslims charities, and this is called Zakah
