3 SUICIDE RISK FACTORS Acute & Chronic Risk Factors:
Chronic risk factors include a past history of suicide attempts (both an acute and a chronic risk), a history of impulsive behavior, a family history of depression or suicide attempts or completed suicide, living alone, being widowed or divorced, and being white, male, or elderly. Access to lethal agents is both an acute and a chronic risk factor.

4 SUICIDE RISK FACTORS Genetic Risk Factors:
Studies indicates independent inheritance of mood disorders and suicidal behavior. Other studies has shown a concordance for suicide of 13.2 percent for monozygotic twins but only .7 percent for dizygotic twins.

6 SUICIDE RISK FACTORS Acute & Chronic Risk Factors :
These can be divided into acute and chronic categories: Acute factors, indicating a current elevation of risk, include suicidal ideation, the presence of a specific plan, the means to carry out such a plan , prior suicide attempts, coexisting substance abuse or panic disorder with depression, and recent losses. A high intention to die is also an important clue.

Severe anxiety accompanying a depression is a critically important risk factor Desperation (but also other strong emotional states such as hopelessness and anxiety) as the most prominent predictor marking an imminent suicide.
