3 What Is BioSAFE Key component in the “Antimicrobial Intervention Program”. Commonly known as stabilised chlorine dioxide. Broad spectrum biocide. Has the ability to destroy certain odours. Flexible and versatile product that can be tailored to meet customers needs.

4 BioSAFE is A Bactericide A Fungicide An Algicide A Viricide
A Sporicide And will remove Biofilm

5 Antimicrobial Intervention Program is:
A program to improve the product viability during processing and packaging. Forming stratigic alliances and working as partners in business with the right businesses to improve product quality and extend shelf life opening the doors for value adding and interstate and export opportunities.

6 Antimicrobial Intervention Program
The Antimicrobial Intervention Program can be implemented into individual processes, or across fully integrated chain management systems. Such as using BioSAFE from post harvest, through processing and with Charles Gabb & Co’s “Lo Bac” Trade Mark antimicrobial packaging.

7 Antimicrobial Intervention Program
BioSAFE is able to replace a number of alternative chemicals with one single solution. BioSAFE is the ideal product for an antimicrobial intervention program due to its flexibility and versatility. The aim of the program is to improve the biosecurity of a process therefore reducing product losses and the risk of human illness.

8 BioSAFE Stabilised Chlorine Dioxide
Stable product that is a precursor for the formation of chlorine dioxide and chlorous acid. Colourless liquid with slight chlorinous smell at high concentrations. To release chlorine dioxide, the product is “activated” by lowering the ph with the use of suitable acids. Products of activation are acid and ph dependent.

9 BioSAFE (Chlorine Dioxide) holds the following approvals.
All BioSAFE products are manufactured under and comply with the requirements of: AS/NZS ISO 9001:2000 Quality management systems-Requirements. BioSAFE 5 holds AQIS approval IOA No 8774 BioSAFE is approved by ANZFA Food Standards Code Chapter 1. Standard Clause 11 & 12. BioSAFE is also covered by the Export Control (Processed Foods) Orders. 13 BioSAFE (Chlorine Dioxide)
Also is covered by many world wide approvals, including USDA, FDA, EPA, Organic and even Kosher. Approvals for use include: Approval for bacterial and mould control in federally inspected processing plants for environmental surfaces. Approval as a terminal sanitizing rinse not requiring a water flush on all food surfaces found in food plants ETC. ETC. Research conducted in various countries prove ingredients in BioSAFE to be the most potent and effective germicide available today

14 BioSAFE (Chlorine Dioxide)
Will reduce overall chemical costs. Is environmentally friendly and less corrosive than chlorine at use rates. Is approved for HACPP controls (Salmonella, Listeria, E.Coli, Crypto and Giardia etc). Is currently used to disinfect against Anthrax, in poultry water for New Castle Disease and will kill the Aids and Herpes virus. It also eliminates Fungi like Candida, Mucor, Trichophyton, Fusarium, Aspergillus and many more.

15 The American society of Analytical chemists stated that chlorine Dioxide is the most powerful anti microbial agent known to man. The potential of stabilised chlorine dioxide has still not been fully appreciated. Research is continuing into the applications and efficacy of both chlorine dioxide and chlorous acid in various markets. New innovative methods for applying stabilised chlorine dioxide are being developed.

21 BioSAFE Composition BioSAFE is a complex mixture of oxychlorine species. Product contains stabilisers and buffers. BioSAFE is a precursor for generating chlorine dioxide and chlorous acid. BioSAFE 5 (30,000 ppm available chlorine dioxide) is classed as Non Dangerous Goods

22 Any Questions before we proceed

23 Mode of Action for BioSAFE.

24 Mode of Action BioSAFE as a Biocide BioSAFE and Biofilms Odour Control
Pollutant oxidiser Comparison of common biocides Improving the efficiency of BioSAFE.

25 BioSAFE as a Biocide Activated BioSAFE is an efficient biocide.
Capable of controlling and reducing all types of micro-organisms including; Bacteria Fungi Virus Protozoa Algae Capable of controlling and reducing spore forming micro-organisms.

26 BioSAFE and Biofilms BioSAFE is able to penetrate biofilms and destroy them. Many disinfecting chemicals are unable to destroy biofilms. It is believed chlorine dioxide is able to penetrate the slime layer as it exists as a gas in water.

27 Biocide Comparison Chlorine Dioxide (BioSAFE) Advantages
Broad spectrum efficacy with bacteria, fungi and viruses. Micro-organisms cannot build a resistance to BioSAFE Performs over a broad pH range (4 to 10) Good selectivity with minimal reactions with organic matter. Works well in contaminated systems. No THMs (trihalomethanes) formed Low corrosivity at normal concentrations Effective against spores Destroys biofilms Low contact time of seconds to minutes Product is biodegradable No rinse sanitiser in the food industry

28 Efficiency Improvements Cont..
Do you know what micro-organisms you are wanting to treat. Do you know what contact time is available as this will determine what concentrations are required. Understand the process first before deciding on the required acid for activation. Short contact times may lead to higher concentrations using hydrochloric acid Long contact times with residuals may lead to low concentrations with citric acid.

29 Questions

30 Activation Two methods of activation
Manually Automatically Both methods involve the addition of the appropriate acid at the required rate. Method of activation will depend on a number of factors; Type of acid selected for activation The amount of chlorous acid/chlorine dioxide required. The type of process i.e.. Is continuous injection required or batch dosing. The availability of trained personnel for manually activating.

31 Activation Manual Activation Suitable for small operations
For customers requiring no capital outlay For conducting trials Suitable for processes that require a one off treatment. Suitable for both citric acid and phosphoric acid activations. Not recommended for hydrochloric activations. Customer has available personnel to manually activate product in ventilated area.

32 Activation Automatic Automatic activation includes dosing and delivery equipment Suitable for large users Automatic activation and dosing units can be controlled by online measurement. Suitable for all acids (liquid citric, phosphoric and hydrochloric). Required for hydrochloric activation. Ideal for continuous injection processes that must maintain residuals. Automatic activation equipment varies in size and capacity.

33 Activation Inline injection system for BioSAFE.

34 Stabilised Chlorine Dioxide Language
Concentration of available chlorine dioxide is expressed as ppm (parts per million). Available chlorine dioxide is the amount of chlorine dioxide that would be formed if using hydrochloric acid to activate. Free chlorine dioxide refers to the amount of chlorine dioxide actually formed in the reaction in terms of concentration (ppm) Residual chlorine dioxide is the amount of free chlorine dioxide remaining after the process.

35 Stabilised Chlorine Dioxide Language
Citric Acid 1,000ppm available chlorine dioxide activated with citric acid will provide approximately 250ppm free chlorine dioxide. Phosphoric Acid 1,000ppm available chlorine dioxide activated with phosphoric acid will provide approximately 400ppm free chlorine dioxide Hydrochloric Acid 1,000ppm available chlorine dioxide activated with hydrochloric acid will provide approximately 1,000ppm free chlorine dioxide.

36 Tests carried out by a NATA accredited micro laboratory have shown BioSAFE to achieve:
Up to 6 log reductions on SPC across various products. Shelf life extension. eg.Enableing fruit salad supplier to obtain interstate business The benefits of fogging processing and refrigeration areas.
