6 6 Socio-economic impact The total cost of illness of dementia disorders in EU27 in 2008 was estimated to be EUR 160 billion (GBP 136 billion) of which 56% were costs of informal care. 1 The cost per person with dementia was about EUR 22,000 (GBP 18,800) per year.
