1. The governors and staff of Grove Road are currently working to draft and agree the values and vision for Grove Road. As you can imagine this is proving to be quite a complex task and we are all keen to ensure that the views of as many parents and children as possible feature in the final values statement. We want to make sure we encapsulate what is important to you and the children. What values do you feel are essential in a school of the 21 st Century? Whilst we might know instinctively what is important, it is another challenge altogether to articulate our values in a concise and meaningful way. So we are asking parents, governors, staff and children to take part in a task to help us capture the values that sit at the heart of Grove Road. Our hope is that the contributions we collect can go onto the school website, on display around the school and most importantly be included in our school’s values statement in the new year. The task can be done as individual parents, individual children, in partnership with your child or as a family using the pro forma below. It would be a great help to us if the task could be completed as per the instructions below and emailed back to us in a digital format, although we will accept paper copies too. The deadline is Monday 15 th December. Can you help?

2. Hints/Tips: We will need parents to guide the children to be thinking in terms of values rather than resources, events or individuals. The children will know what they enjoy and what they like about school, but may need help to articulate the values it represents. By values we mean what we believe to be the important principles on which our behaviours, teaching and learning should be based. If a child says that being in the Celebration book is important, is that because it represents the value we place on celebrating success, being positive or that they feel learning should be fun? If gaining a Pen Licence is important, is that just because we reward neat handwriting or is it because we value the quality of presentation and the perseverance that went into achieving it? Here is a list of values you may wish to choose from, but of course you may come up with some of your own: honesty, peace, humility, freedom, cooperation, care, love, unity, respect, tolerance, courage, friendship, patience, quality, thoughtfulness, curiosity, independence, determination and communication.
