2 A lot of us would like to move mountains, but few of us are willing to practice on small hills. Who we are… Our Mission To support students, reach their potentials and pursue their dreams, through Intensive Professional Coaching in Math, Science and Languages for Grade 1 to Grade 12 Our dream to be the KIPP of GTA KIPP We have been serving as a grass root organization for 8 years 2

3 Our Purpose Preparing the students, from Grade 1- Grade 12, of Peel Halton region, for success in school and life by building academic skills, knowledge, and character. 1. To assist students develop the positive learning attitude and skills that will serve them for life 2. To provide intensive professional coaching to promote academic excellence and knowledge in Math, Science and Languages 3 Teachers open the door. You enter by yourself.

4 Background In past decade a Shift happened in the skills and knowledge that young people need to develop during the school years in order to participate effectively and successfully in the world and workplace of 21 st century. The Ontario Governments Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) has identified 6 essential skills for employability in 21 st century: Numeracy, Problem solving and critical thinking, Information management, Personal management, Interpersonal skills, and Communication skills. 4 We cannot direct the wind but we can adjust the sail.

5 Background In Ontario, each year over $20 Billion is spent on the school education. It is 2nd highest cost to the tax payers after the Health costs. The students who failed to meet the Provincial minimum standards in 2010-11 EQAO assessments are noted below: 5 ReadingWriting Mathematics Grade 1-3 35%27%31% Grade 4-6 26%27%42% Grade 9 (applied) 58%

6 Background According to HRDC data, less than 25% of the population between the age 18-24 participate in University Another estimates suggest that close to 40% of the students drop out of university within the first year 6 The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.

7 Our Program The research clearly indicates a few success factors: All students can learn and be confident in mathematics, given appropriate support and guidance Teacher makes the biggest difference. Well trained, experienced and dedicated teacher is the first and foremost factor in the success of students Using the right approach, study material, and tools are some of the other key factors in developing the interest and competency of a student 7 There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, learning from failure.

8 Our Program Our program has dual objectives: Positive learning attitude and skills Promote academic excellence and knowledge Program design, teaching techniques, material and methodologies developed by very experienced and trained staff 8 The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.

9 Our Program Delivered at a Public School Based on well proven basic principles of learning Highly experienced, trained and passionate teachers Blends fun, learning, and positive reinforcement Builds foundation and basic skills – every lesson and interaction focus on developing key traits High expectations – we raise the bar for students and teachers alike Match traditional learning approaches with modern tools and techniques 9 You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him find it within himself.

10 Our Program Sessions over weekend for entire academic session In addition to building academics, our sessions focus on key learning skills Effective Studying Techniques Time Management for Students Art Classes French and Other International Languages Career Counseling for High School Students Yoga for Students 10 An ounce of practice is worth more than tons of preaching.

Our Program Classes will also focus on building academic basics by building Numeracy, Problem Solving, and Language skills Sessions will have quizzes, tests and prizes Students will be encourages to participate in various competitions like Math Kangaroo and University of Waterloo Math Contests. 11
