4 A ninja’s job and function A ninja ‘s main function is usually as an assassin employed by a daimyo, to secretly sneak into his enemy’s territory. A ninja can also be a spy or a detective on enemy’s movements. On this picture, a ninja is sneaking behind his target. 13 The Origin of the Ninja A ninja, or Shinobi, is usually a samurai that lost a battle that did not commit “seppku”, or just farmers and peasants that did not want to live their old life.
