4 2010 FIBA RULE CHANGES 2008 RULE Interval of play: At the beginning of the first period when the ball is legally tapped by a jumper on the jump ball. At the beginning of all other periods when the ball touches or is legally touched by a player on the playing court after the throw-in. 2010 RULE Interval of play: Ends when ball is tossed or ball at disposal of thrower-in

6 2010 FIBA RULE CHANGES 2008 RULE Last Second Shot: No specific rule; officials were to judge if the shot was released prior to the buzzer 2010 RULE Last second shot: Near the end of a period, the game clock must show at least 0:00.3 for a player to secure control of the ball and attempt a try for goal. If clock shows 0:00.2 or 0:00.1, the only legal goal must be made as a result of a tap or direct dunk.

7 2010 FIBA RULE CHANGES 2008 RULE Last 2 minutes: The player taking the throw-in shall have one foot on either side of the centre line extended and shall be entitled to pass the ball to a team- mate at any place on the playing court. 2010 RULE Last 2 minutes: Team entitled to throw-in in backcourt takes time out, throw-in at throw-in line in its frontcourt. If there is no throw in line -the throw-in will occur opposite the table at a point parallel to the top of the 3 point arc.

8 2010 FIBA RULE CHANGES 2008 RULE 8-second rule Count starts when a player gains control of a live ball in his backcourt, his team must cause the ball to go into its frontcourt within eight (8) seconds. 2010 RULE 8-second rule: Count starts as soon as any player touches or is touched by the ball in the backcourt and the team taking the throw-in remains in control of the ball

The ball was deemed to be in the frontcourt when it touched any part of a player who was in contact with the frontcourt. There was an exception for a player jumping from frontcourt, gaining control of a jump ball or intercepting a pass and landing in the backcourt 2010 RULE Ball in front court: No change to the dribbling rule or the airborne player rule. The ball touches or is legally touched by an offensive player who has both feet in contact with his frontcourt

10 2010 FIBA RULE CHANGES 2008 RULE 24-second rule Started or restarted whenever a team gains control of a live ball on the playing court 2010 RULE 24-second rule On a throw-in, the shot clock starts as soon as the ball touches or is touched by any player on the playing surface and the team taking the throw-in remains in control of the ball

13 2010 FIBA RULE CHANGES 2008 RULE 24-second rule After any foul the twenty-four (24) second clock is reset to 24 seconds. 2010 RULE 24-second rule If the throw-in is administered in the frontcourt, the twenty-four (24) second clock shall be reset as follows: If fourteen (14) seconds or more is displayed on the twenty-four (24) second clock at the time when the game was stopped, the twenty- four (24) second clock shall not be reset, but shall continue from the time it was stopped.

14 2010 FIBA RULE CHANGES 2008 RULE 24-second rule After any foul the twenty-four (24) second clock is reset to 24 seconds. 2010 RULE 24-second rule If thirteen (13) seconds or less is displayed on the twenty- four (24) second clock at the time when the game was stopped, the twenty-four (24) second clock shall be reset to fourteen (14) seconds.

15 2010 FIBA RULE CHANGES 2008 RULE Unsportsmanlike foul When the ball is out-of-bounds for a throw-in and is still in the hands of the official or is already at the disposal of the thrower-in and at that moment a defensive player on the court causes contact with a player of the team of the thrower-in also on the court and the foul is called, this shall be judged as unsportsmanlike. 2010 RULE Unsportsmanlike foul Only during the last 2 minutes of the 4 th period or overtime will a foul committed by a defender while the ball is at the disposal of the thrower-in, be called an unsportsmanlike foul
