The Common Treasury

The Church Had a Treasury Acts 2:42-45; 4:34,35; 5:1-4; 6:1-4 Would the Holy Spirit reveal one thing by spoken word and something different by written word? Acts 20:7; 1 Cor. 16:1,2 We teach against tithing, but not for giving! Would Jewish believers have reduced their giving?

The Common Treasury Objections To A Common Treasury: “Collections were to be at home.” “Why on Sunday and why no collections when he came?” “Must know specific need before we give.” 2 Cor. 11:8,9; 12:13; 1 Cor. 9:11,122 Cor. 11:8,9; 12:13; 1 Cor. 9:11,12

The Common Treasury Permanent Responsibilities = Permanent Treasuries 1 Tim. 5:9,10 “ 9 Do not let a widow under sixty years old be taken into the number, and not unless she has been the wife of one man 10 well reported for good works: if she has brought up children, if she has lodged strangers, if she has washed the saints' feet, if she has relieved the afflicted, if she has diligently followed every good work.” 1 Cor. 9:11,12 11 If we have sown spiritual things for you, is it a great thing if we reap your material things? 12 If others are partakers of this right over you, are we not even more? Nevertheless we have not used this right, but endure all things lest we hinder the gospel of Christ There is always a need to do the Lord's work!

Four Principles of Giving 1.A Matter Of The Heart 2 Cor. 9:7 Must realize stewardship, Ps. 24:1; 50:10,12; Acts 4:32 1 Cor. 4:2; Malachi 1:10,13; 3:8-10 2. A Matter Of The Will 2 Cor. 8:10 Rich man had problem with his will (Lk. 18:18-27) Brethren decide not to give - because need a vacation, are sick, out of town, etc. - robbing God.

Four Principles of Giving 3. A Matter Of Faith 2 Cor. 9:6 Did God want Isaac, or Abraham? (Heb. 11:l9). Did God want Isaac, or Abraham? (Heb. 11:l9). Does He have us? 4. A Matter Of Emotion 2 Cor. 9:7 (cheerfully – “hilaros”) Giving from the heart, in faith will result in hilarious giving.

Three Problems 1.Churches may RAISE money as individuals Eph. 4:28; 2 Thess. 3:10; Jas. 4:13 (1 Cor. 16:1,2) Eph. 4:28; 2 Thess. 3:10; Jas. 4:13 (1 Cor. 16:1,2) 2. Churches may USE money as individuals Gal. 6:10-13; 1 Tim. 5:16 (1 Cor. 16:1; 2 Cor. 8:13-15; Rom.15:25-31; 1 Thess. 1:8; Phil. 4:15-23) 3. Churches may SAVE money as individuals Eph. 4:28; Jas. 4:13 (2 Cor. 8:10,11; 9:1-4)

It is wrong not to use it, as well as to use it wrongly. The Church is not in the banking business!
