Worship of the Church Then Jesus said to him, "Away with you, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.'" (Matt. 4:10)

Worship: True or Vain? And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men. (Matt. 15:9) Not all worship is acceptable. (Lev. 10:1-2) If not in doctrine of Christ, then not acceptable. (2 Jn. 9; Col. 3:17) God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. (John 4:24) Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. (John 17:17) True worship involves understanding, meaning, and feeling. (Matt. 15:8)

Items of True Worship Must assemble with the church. (Heb. 10:24-25) Teaching – teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you… (Matthew 28:20) – It is written in the prophets, “And they shall all be taught by God…” (John 6:45) – And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. (Acts 2:42) – Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight. (Acts 20:7)

Items of True Worship Prayer – praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints-- (Eph. 6:18) – And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. (Acts 2:42) – Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church. (Acts 12:5) – What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding… (1 Cor. 14:15)

Items of True Worship Singing – Vocal or Mechanical – let the Scriptures speak! – speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. (Eph. 5:19) – Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (Col. 3:16) – Matt. 26:30; Mk. 14:26; Acts 16:25; Rom. 15:9; 1 Cor. 14:15; Heb. 2:12; 13:15; Jas. 5:13 – Notice: we sing to each other, not a choir singing to us.

Items of True Worship The Lord’s Supper – And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. (Acts 2:42) – Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight. (Acts 20:7) Received from the Lord (1 Cor. 11:23-30) – The elements: bread & fruit of the vine – Purpose: Remember the Lord’s death – Time: First day of the week (Acts 20:7) – Place: the assembly (1 Cor. 11:20)

Items of True Worship Giving – On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come. (1 Cor. 16:2) – But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Cor. 9:6-7) – No tithing – Only way for church to raise funds to do work God gave it to do – no car washes, soliciting from non- members, pie supper, bingo, dinners, going into business…
