2 System Overview

3 Did You Know? Most acne systems address present and future acne, but fail to address the past effects of breakouts. Nu Skin Clear Action™ focuses on the past, present, and future effects of acne breakouts.

4 Objectives After viewing this course, you should have an understanding of the following: How the Nu Skin Clear Action™ Acne Medication System addresses past, present, and future issues associated with acne. Nu Skin Clear Action™ system products. The role of Nu Skin Clear Action™ ingredients in treating acne.

5 Previous Curriculum Review

6 Definition of Acne Acne is an inflammatory skin condition that occurs when oil and dead skin cells block the pore opening, causing sebum (oil) to build up inside the pore.

7 Acne Life Cycle Stage 1: Clogged Pores. Cells lining pores shed and mix with excess sebum produced by sebaceous glands, forming a plug, which leads to clogged pores. Stage 2: Bacteria. Accumulated sebum and dead cells attract the P. acnes (or propionibacterium) bacteria naturally found in skin, which feeds on oil and multiplies rapidly inside pores. Stage 3: Inflammation. This bacterial overgrowth triggers the natural inflammatory response causing swelling and redness. This can ultimately lead to discoloration and scarring.

8 Potential for more scarring, hyperpigmentation, and textural damage
Effects of Acne Present Past Future Textural damage Hyperpigmentation Acne Scars Breakouts Redness Irritation Oiliness More acne Potential for more scarring, hyperpigmentation, and textural damage

9 Treating Acne When treating acne topically, dermatologists recommend a three-pronged approach: Unclog pores and keep them clear. Control oil which helps to limit bacterial growth. Reduce inflammation.

10 Stress Can Cause Acne Stress can aggravate your skin by triggering the release of androgens and cortisol. These stress hormones can stimulate an overproduction of oil. When this excess oil mixes with dead skin cells, it promotes bacterial growth and can cause acne to develop or worsen.

11 Nu Skin Clear Action™ System

12 Nu Skin Clear Action™ System
Most acne treatment systems only target the production of sebum and growth of bacteria. However, to effectively and comprehensively treat acne, you must do more than this. When the body is fighting acne it causes an increase in free radicals, which deplete the skin’s natural antioxidant supply. Nu Skin Clear Action™ incorporates antioxidants that restore the skin’s natural resiliency and vibrancy. Nu Skin Clear Action™ targets sebum production and gently dissolves the plug that allows bacteria to grow. It also addresses the issue of inflammation and remnants of past breakouts.

13 Nu Skin Clear Action™ System
Nu Skin Clear Action™ is a comprehensive acne treatment system that addresses the full spectrum of effects—past, present, and future—associated with acne and helps keep the skin looking vibrant and healthy. 26 Role of Ingredients

27 Salicylic Acid vs. Benzoyl Peroxide
Nu Skin Clear Action™ Acne Medication System uses salicylic acid in each of its products. Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid that effectively penetrates pores and gently exfoliates to eliminate most blemishes. Benzoyl peroxide is an antibacterial agent used in some acne treatment systems. With extended use, benzoyl peroxide is known to have the following side effects: Dryness and sensitivity: About three percent of people are allergic to benzoyl peroxide and experience inflammation of the skin. It is more common, however, to experience dryness or peeling of skin and a tingling or slight stinging sensation. Free radical damage: Free radicals—the leading cause of aging and disease—are unstable, highly reactive molecules with the ability to damage cell membranes, DNA, and important cellular structures. Peroxide is an oxidative species that can create free radicals. Additionally, benzoyl peroxide DOES NOT address uneven skin texture, discoloration, or hyperpigmentation associated with past breakouts. Nu Skin Clear Action™ does address these issues with the exfoliating properties of salicylic acid and other key ingredients.
