6 Previous Curriculum Review

7 Curriculum Review: Skin Physiology
Moisture Barrier: In between the keratinocytes (skin cells) in the stratum corneum (outer layer of the epidermis) are epidermal lipids (ceramides, fatty acids, and lipids) that form a waterproof moisture barrier. This barrier minimizes transepidermal water loss and hinders the invasion of microorganisms, chemical irritants, and allergens. Stratum Corneum

8 Curriculum Review: Skin Physiology
Acid Mantle: The very outer layers of the stratum corneum have a slightly acidic pH. These layers are called the acid mantle and function to further inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria and fungi and maintain the hardness of keratin proteins. Acid Mantle Stratum Corneum

9 Curriculum Review: Skin Physiology
If the moisture barrier and acid mantle are disrupted—a side effect of traditional alkaline soaps—the skin becomes prone to dryness, itching, redness, stinging, roughness, invasion of foreign particles, and many other skin care concerns. Stratum Corneum can be referred to as the Moisture Barrier

10 Nutricentials™ Nutricentials™ is a core daily skin care system designed to promote basic skin health and maintain a beautiful more youthful appearance. Each product within the system is formulated with a key Nutricentials™ ingredient. These key ingredients are topically applied nutrient building blocks proven by research to naturally enhance the healthy appearance of skin.

11 Introduction

12 Cleanse—a basic need for healthy skin
Proper cleansing is a basic need for soft, supple skin and is absolutely necessary to maintain a healthy, youthful appearance.

13 Cleanse—a basic need for healthy skin
If excess oil, dirt, pollutants, and impurities are not removed from the skin, they can have the following negative effects: Dull or oily appearance to the skin Clogged, inflamed pores that may lead to the development of pimples

14 Common Soaps Traditional soaps are formulated by mixing an oil or fat with an alkaline substance, such as lye. Although they are effective at removing oils and impurities from the skin, traditional soaps have a very high (alkaline) pH, sometimes as high as 9 or 10.

15 Common Soaps Alkaline soaps compromise the skin’s integrity. The alkaline pH breaks apart epidermal lipids in the moisture barrier and damages the acid mantle. Today, many soaps on the market have an alkaline pH and can damage the skin.

16 Nu Skin® Cleansers All Nu Skin® cleansers are formulated with surfactants (surface cleansing agents) that allow scientists to formulate the cleansers with a pH closer to that of the skin’s (4.5–6.5). Nu Skin® cleansers help maintain basic skin health by protecting the pH of the acid mantle and components within the moisture barrier.

17 Nutricentials™ Cleansers
Nutricentials™ cleansers contain nutrient building blocks that function to meet the basic daily needs of each skin type, ensuring the healthy appearance of the skin.

18 Creamy Cleansing Lotion
(Normal to Dry Skin)

19 Cleansing Needs of Normal to Dry Skin
Cleansing properly with a mild, gentle cleanser is essential for normal to dry skin to avoid flaking, dry lines and wrinkles, redness, and itching. Cleansers must have an abundance of moisturizing emollients to protect the moisture barrier during the cleansing process.

20 Creamy Cleansing Lotion
Creamy Cleansing Lotion effectively removes dirt, oil, and impurities while protecting the skin’s vital moisture barrier each time you cleanse.

21 Key Benefits—Creamy Cleansing Lotion
a) Protects and replenishes the skin’s delicate moisture barrier during the cleansing process. b) Thoroughly removes skin impurities and debris without stripping critical skin lipids. c) Leaves normal, dry, and sensitive skin feeling soft, smooth, and balanced.

22 Nutricentials™ Ingredient—Creamy Cleansing Lotion
Soy lipids Lipids from soy are a rich source of natural vitamin E, essential fatty acids, and lecithin.

23 Additional Ingredients—Creamy Cleansing Lotion
Meadowfoam seed oil is a rich emollient that adds moisture and softness. Mugwort, licorice, and algae extracts soothe and calm delicate skin.

24 Key Benefits and Ingredients Supported

25 Key Benefits and Ingredients Supported
a) Protects and replenishes the skin’s delicate moisture barrier during the cleansing process. Soy lipids, in Creamy Cleansing Lotion, contain the key components lecithin and fatty acids that are compatible with the lipids and fatty acids within the moisture barrier. These components are able to keep even the driest, most sensitive skin soft and hydrated during the cleansing process.

26 Key Benefits and Ingredients Supported
b) Thoroughly removes skin impurities and debris without stripping critical skin lipids. Creamy Cleansing Lotion is formulated with gentle surfactants that do not pull out necessary lipids from the moisture barrier as many alkaline soaps can.

27 Key Benefits and Ingredients Supported
c) Leaves normal, dry, and sensitive skin feeling soft, smooth, and balanced. Creamy Cleansing Lotion contains a combination of nurturing soy lipids and soothing, calming ingredients such as mugwort, licorice, and algae extracts that keep the moisture barrier balanced while preventing irritation.

31 (Combination to Oily Skin)
Pure Cleansing Gel (Combination to Oily Skin)

32 Cleansing Needs of Combination to Oily Skin
People with combination to oily skin need a powerful cleanser that not only breaks apart dead cell buildup and keeps pores clear, but also controls oil production and prevents acne that can lead to hyper- pigmentation and scarring. Caution: An overly aggressive cleanser can strip too many oils from the skin, triggering an over-production of oil.

33 Pure Cleansing Gel Pure Cleansing Gel cleans and clarifies pores while controlling oil production, and without overdrying. Pure Cleansing Gel leaves skin feeling fresh, clean, and energized.

34 Key Benefits—Pure Cleansing Gel
a) Loosens oil and dead skin cell buildup to effectively clear pores and energize the skin. b) Thoroughly removes dirt, oil, and makeup without stripping the skin’s essential moisture. c) Helps balance sebum levels to minimize shine throughout the day.

35 Nutricentials™ Ingredient—Pure Cleansing Gel
Papain A proteolytic enzyme derived from papaya that breaks down proteins and cellular debris.
