3  The make-up of the team. - Team consists of classroom teachers from primary and intermediate grades as well as the Teacher Librarian and technology teacher.  There are experts in technology and applying it to writing.  Passion for writing and research as well as the use of technology. 4 By May of 2013 Weikel Teachers will demonstrate an understanding of Common Core writing standard 2, 7, and 8 measured by 90% completion of the action steps.

5  Major Improvement Strategy #3: - Sustain and improve writing instruction at Weikel Elementary as measured by teacher understanding and student data.  Root Cause(s) Addressed: - Children’s ability to demonstrate skills necessary to grow and write on grade level is both a building and District priority. The Writing leadership team at Weikel has provided effective guidance and direction for teachers over the past two years. With the transition to Common Core standards and end of year TCAP growth gap data that reflects inconsistent results, quality and targeted writing instruction will be a priority need in 2012-2013.

6  Teachers and students actively participate in conferencing. - Students are able to self-reflect on strengths and areas for improvement in their writing in reference to common scoring criteria.  Instructional leaders ensure faculty meeting time to examine writing resources and provide timely professional development.  Teachers will demonstrate an understanding of the Common Core writing standards 2, 7, and 8.

7 1 - Completed monthly professional development in using CCSS, in planning, instruction, and assessments. 2 - Teacher Librarian taught lessons in research, work citing, plagiarism, etc. 3 - Technology teacher taught lessons on research, planning, word processing, and typing. 4 - Set clear expectations of weekly writing planning. 5 - Students are writing in their Bare Books to be displayed on young author’s celebration. 6 - Author specializing in non-fiction writing is scheduled to visit for our Young Author’s Celebration on May 10 th.

14  System to hold grade levels accountable for weekly team planning in writing.  Balancing CCSS along with foundational writing programs and tools.  Find the time to fit it all in.  Teacher frustration over new rigorous expectations as well as the rubrics.

17  This is our 3 rd year that our goal is centered around professional development in writing in our building. It is a norm during staff meetings.  Writing is an on-going expectation in the district and teachers are also wanting to further their knowledge in writing instruction.
