SURAH AL-ANFAL VERSE 27-30

27. O you who believe! Betray not Allah and His Messenger, nor betray knowingly your Amanat (things entrusted to you, and all the duties which Allah has ordained for you). Teaching from the ayah : The ayah specially addresses the believers; this statement shows that amanah has the great alliance with iman. Failure in fulfilling our amanah towards Allah, Rasul and others will degrade the quality of our iman. As a staff of IIUM, our responsibility is towards IIUM that pays our monthly salary.

28. And know that your possessions and your children are but a trial and that surely with Allah is a mighty reward. Teaching from the ayah: Self-interest to fulfill one’s lust, family and one’s own necessity usually drives people to break the amanah entrusted upon them. Therefore Allah reminds us that His reward is far more greater that these short term benefits of khianah

29. O you who believe! If you obey and fear Allah, He will grant you Furqan a criterion [(to judge between right and wrong), or (Makhraj, i.e. making a way for you to get out from every difficulty)], and will expiate for you your sins, and forgive you, and Allah is the Owner of the Great Bounty. The teaching of the ayah: Taqwa or the state of fearing Allah will give us the good sense of amanah in all our endeavors particularly as a staff of IIUM. Those whose fear Allah will always watch his or her steps to seek Allah’s pleasure.

Verily, the best of men for you to hire is the strong, the trustworthy.“ Al-Qasas: 26 The teaching of the ayah: The daughter of Prophet Syu’aib A.S suggested to his dad to employ Prophet Musa A.S as a worker. She noticed that Musa possesses 2 main characteristics of a good worker, which are; 1- The ability to perform his responsibility 2- Possess the criteria of amanah or accountability

1. Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], 2. Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, demand full measure, 3. And when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. 4. Think they not that they will be resurrected (for reckoning), 5. On a great day 6. The Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)? The teaching of the ayah: Allah warned the people of Madyan on the importance of amanah in their daily affairs. The special reminder of the issue shows that amanah is a crucial issue that had led to the destruction of the nation of Madyan (in the past) who failed to fulfill the requirement of amanah ( Al-Mutaffifin: 1-6 )
