2. Japan’s Technology before the war Before World War II, Japan’s technological progression was moving considerably slower than most other countries. In Edo, Japan, for example, the majority of the population worked in agriculture, and were not educated. Therefore because of the lack of intellectual minds, advancements in technology were virtually non-existent. Throughout the Meiji Restoration time, the Tokugawa Shogun was overthrown, and once again the emperor took back power. Because of this Japan, was now open to trade with countries, which improved, economical growth. It also allowed Japan to catch up technologically and then even surpass the other countries, that before it had been closed off from.

4. Japan’s Technology after the war After the war, Japans economy was shattered, but with the help of The U.S it experienced a constantly growing economical, technological and industrial society. This made way for an ‘economic boom’ with old markets now flourishing, such as textiles, whilst new markets, like industry, increased sufficiently. It was the heavy industry that allowed Japan to start marketing, developing and investing in a new, ‘high-tech’ industry. This replaced the older heavy industry that used to occupy Japan, which used a plethora of utilities and recourses. Because of this, Japan then became the largest manufacturer of technological products, including Televisions, Cars, DVD players and so on. As well as this, because of the recent oil crisis, Japan felt it was wise to invest in cars that used renewable recourses. Japan’s booming economy can also be shown when we look at the amount of cars manufactures, which is now the highest in the world.

5. How much time do you spend using technology a day? INVESTIGATION What does this data tell you about society’s use of technology and the change in technology? This data shows us that the majority of people, spend up to eight hours on technology a day. Bearing in mind, that most schools and work places use technology, this does not necessarily mean the predominance of people’s days are spent using technology. What other conclusions can you draw from this data? We can tell nowadays people usually spend between 7-8 hours on some kind of technology a day, which, when compared to the average, for example 50 years ago, we see that there is a significant rise in the amount of time people use technology.

6. How many electronic devices did you have before the age of 13? What does this data tell you about society’s use of technology and the change in technology? From the data above, we can observe that the majority of people have had above 6 electronic devices before the age of 13. However, although over 25 people answered this survey, the reason that it looks like only 1 person answered this question is because, in a moment of confusion, when for some reason it looked like my answers on the spread sheet were in the wrong format, I deleted them. However, when I looked at the pie charts and graphs, I didn’t see any difference as I was merely skimming over it. What other conclusions can you draw from this data? Unfortunately, the severe lack of data means that producing realistic conclusions is not only hard, but also, as a result, almost impossible, because it would be a theory and not a realistic answer.

7. How old were you when you owned your first electronic device? What does this data tell you about society’s use of technology and the change in technology? As I previously stated, there is a no evidence to back up anything I conclude. However, in my opinion, if we look at other results in a similar survey, it is possible to infer that because of societies growth, and a clearly visible influx of both the production of electronic devices, and the amount of devices used in domestic and work places, the age that children today would receive any kind of electronic device, much younger than the generation before. What other conclusions can you draw from this data? Theory wise, I would believe that a fairly large amount of people would find the statement above highly plausible. This is because we can also come to conclusion that children are developing more technological skills, as a result of being exposed to technology at a younger age.

8. What is your preferred electronic device? What does this data tell you about society’s use of technology and the change in technology? It shows the vast range of technology available, and how society as a hole, feels the need to constantly create new and innovative electronic devices in an attempt to make the most profit. What other conclusions can you draw from this data? We can also infer that the majority of people use their laptops or computer, or an unspecified electronic device. It shows that also although tablet sales are still booming, a laptop is still the desired choice. However, in the future, it would be wise to ask the reader to specify which electronic device he/she prefers.

9. Do/ did you use electronic device in school? What does this data tell you about society’s use of technology and the change in technology? We can tell that most people use technology in schools. As this survey was answered by predominantly teenagers, it is not surprising. However, as this question had an ‘other’ button, it impossible to truly understand what was meant. What other conclusions can you draw from this data? We can tell that people nowadays spent much more time using technology outside the domestic household, and we can also see that schools today use technology a lot more, which then allows children to have a better understanding of technology.

This data shows us that the majority of people, spend up to eight hours on technology a day. Bearing in mind, that most schools and work places use technology, this does not necessarily mean the predominance of people’s days are spent using technology. What other conclusions can you draw from this data? We can tell that people nowadays spent much more time using technology as our society has become increasingly reliant on it. When compared to data, ten years ago, an influx the amount of technology used can be visibly seen.

11. Conclusion The data showed that there has been a rapid increase in both the use of technology, and the technology we use in a modern society. It can also be shown that technology is used sufficiently more, in everyday life, outside the domestic use. We can also see that most people have at least 5-6 technological devices, most of which people have had before the age of 13. Moreover, this data also shows us how reliant we are on technology as a constantly growing and evolving society. Unsurprisingly, it was shown that laptops or computers were the most common form of technology, and overall, they were favored, when compared to tablets and mobile phones.

12. Conclusion From the data shown, we can also see that people generally use technology a lot more than in the past. This is growing every year as our modern society has become increasingly reliant on technology. In this day and age, children are generally more knowledgeable in terms of technology and therefore, this paves the way for even more technological advances. A rise can also be seen in young adults applying for technology and courses in universities, as well as the amount of universities specializing in technology. Children are more inclined to use a laptop, than to write and essay by hand. This has lead towards children having smaller attention spans. Not to denounce the currently booming technological industry, merely to say that we can now understand that technology has much more of an impact in our everyday lives, than 50 years ago.
