Outdoor classroom integrates into core curriculum and helps meet standards Enhanced academic achievement in math, science, writing, social studies Promote healthy lifestyles and teaches good nutrition Teaches the value of hard work Instills an ethic of environmental stewardship Builds a sense of place

Timeline November is a good time to start, although September would have been better Groundbreaking next August when school is back in session Several fall crops can be planted Mostly build garden and let nature take its course to build healthy soil for the next spring Still lots of learning that can happen over winter

5. What is needed? Garden committee of parents/teachers Permission from school board Discussions with facilities staff Fundraising (fun-raising?) Site determination and garden plan Lots of organization
